Fixed flow

For long-term monitoring of seismic activity in a particular area, a network of seismic stations established at fixed locations and a department responsible for operational management and data processing functions is called a fixed network.

In order to meet the needs of seismology and earthquake prediction research, or to monitor aftershock activity in the earthquake area and adjacent areas after a strong earthquake, a seismic network consisting of several seismic stations and a data processing center has been temporarily set up. Once a useful record has been obtained or aftershock activity has subsided, the network will be withdrawn. Such networks are called mobile networks.

Seismic monitoring capability of the network
A seismic network used to monitor global seismic activity, spanning almost the entire globe. A typical example is the World Standard Seismic Network (WWSSN), which was established in the United States in the early 1960s. The network consists of more than 100 seismic stations worldwide and operations management offices located in the United States.

In China, a national seismic network consisting of 24 reference stations has already been built, and its scale spans the whole country. It is used to monitor basic seismic activity throughout the country.

In order to monitor the seismic activity in the provinces and the border areas of neighboring provinces, most provinces in China have built a regional seismic network consisting of more than ten to dozens of seismic stations. The span is usually about hundreds of kilometers.

In some provinces or some large industrial and mining enterprises, such as large hydropower stations, in order to monitor the seismic activity of the region, the construction of a local seismic network composed of several or more than ten seismic stations, the span is generally about more than ten kilometers to dozens of kilometers.
